Ontology has released a frequently asked questions (FAQ) page with details on the migration of ONT tokens from the NEO blockchain to Ontology’s MainNet. There will be two methods ONT token holders can utilize to map and migrate to MainNet: an exchange-based swap, or a manual swap.
For the exchange-based approach, ONT token holders will simply be able to leave their tokens on a participating exchange, and wait for the swap to take place after the MainNet launch on June 30, 2018. Exchange-based users are encouraged to follow instructions of participating platforms which, at the time of this writing, include:
- Gate.io, and
For the manual approach, token holders will use their wallet import format (WIF) or private keys to map the Ontology address, which will be announced after the MainNet launch. It is estimated the MainNet ONT token swap could take up to 24 hours.
NOTE: All users should double confirm all information regarding the use of WIF and private keys on official Ontology channels once the migration process begins.
To check the ONT migration progress, a swap status page will be operational when Ontology MainNet launches. The private wallet address will be used to check the status, which will be found at the following link:
https://swap.ont.io/ (not yet live)
Additionally, the Ontology blockchain explorer will be able to provide a status update with a mapped ONT address. To visit the Ontology blockchain explorer, follow the link below:
Once on the MainNet, ONT will not be divisible and, like NEO, the smallest unit will be 1. Individuals are encouraged to round out their ONT prior to mapping and migrating to Ontology MainNet.
The deadline for the manual token swap will be 00:00 (UTC +8) on Monday, October 1st, 2018. Any ONT that has not migrated to MainNet by then, will remain on the NEO blockchain and can no longer be transferred to Ontology’s blockchain.
